Energy System Jobs
Energy is something that we can’t do without — even hunter gatherers use/d fire — and considering the fact that energy prices are rising exponentially, we need to all at least generate some or all of our own energy. However, due to complexities of design and installation, communities will need the help of experts in the field of energy systems. Working in the field of energy systems is thus a great way for WICs to earn a decent living.
Energy systems include heating & cooling, and electricity generation from: Solar PV, Passive Solar Water Heating, Wood Stoves & Fireplaces, Water Wheels & Turbines, Natural Gas Combustion Engine Generators, Pelton Drives, Biogas Systems — Digesters, Stoves, Water Heaters, Windmills and Turbines, CCHP Systems, etc. Energy systems also include distribution via pico / nano-grids to macro-grids and multiple forms of storage.
Nano-grids are small energy grids, powered by various generators often including photovoltaics. For example, a nano-grid might supply a home or village in a rural area. A pico-grid is a still smaller energy grid. IRENA defines nanogrids as systems handling up to 5 kW of power while pico-grids handle up to 1 kW. Nano-grids and pico-grids can play roles in urban, suburban and rural areas.
Energy systems are thus one of the key focus areas of the EQx Jobs 4 WICs initiative. N.B. Almost all of the ‘jobs’ listed below are essentially self-employment jobs.
