Food Security in South Africa

Equity Pact a Rescue Earth Initiative

Global food prices are increasing at a rapid rate in 2021. The cost of fertilizer has doubled in the last 6 months. Together with significant increases in many inputs, and climate disruption, food prices will most likely continue to increase. Furthermore, economic data appears to indicate that the global economy is heading for a 1970s – 1980s style of stagflation.

Global stagflation makes South Africa’s crossroads moment more relevant. Since 1994, we have never experienced the kind of despair, destruction, and volatility we are faced with now. The pandemic, the corruption, the riots, the energy crisis, etc. are pushing society over the edge. It goes without saying the food security and job creation are major issues that need urgent attention.
